One-of-a-kind “New Man’yo Dye” realizes nuanced ‘living’ color extracted from natural materials.

Independently developed “New Man’yo Dye” enables to represent the traditional Japanese colors by using a small amount of natural dyes.
Only available here in the world.
Unlike conventional plant dye using boiled color extract, this method uses blended liquified extracts of powdered materials to realize nuanced ‘living’ color.It also gives a soft, smooth touch. This studio commits to an environment-friendly dyeing process using only biodegradable liquids and mordants.

Representative Yasuo Kawabata talks about the days worked with 9-jour.
“Natural color is not permanent. Some customers might make a complaint about that. So, I first declined to corporate, saying it was better to avoid such a risk.
However, 9-jour. didn’t give up and said,
“We will be responsible for long-loved products, even cherishing the changes of colors.” Then I decided to answer their passion.”

The Banshu Textile is a collective name for yarn-dyed fabrics from Nishiwsaki-city, Hyogo, which has a long history and tradition of more than 200 years. Yachiyo Senko inherits its tradition and takes time and effort to realize a rich color with high color fastness. They detoxify the used water inside the facility, then pour it into Noma River in front of the factory. Soft water in the region is suitable for yarn dyeing. Here in Seto Island Sea, the regulations on water pollution are known as the strictest in Japan. Yachiyo Senko is the leading factory in protecting the environment.

Yachiyo Senko was the first to apply “New Man’yo Dye” to yarn dyeing. Its reliable technique realized the brilliant and gentle color.
However, it was not an easy way at all. Since “New Man’yo Dye” uses powdered material, dyeing bits came out to cause specks. Yachiyo developed a new dyeing method using a centrifuge to overcome the problem.

Shinohara made selvedge denim fabric using an old-fashioned loom for 9-jour. Mr.Tatsuya Shinohara, the planning and sales manager, proposed to adopt Burkina cotton, saying that its fiber length is similar to that of old vintage denim. “Fashion brands like 9-jour. are increasing, those pursue not only design but a vision. 9-jour. has a strong point in dyeing, so I proposed the most suitable material.“

90-year history. This handprint factory challenges “something nobody has done yet.”

The Kyo-Yuzen technique is indispensable for making kimono and yukata. Hand-screen print is made by placing a cut-out board on fabric, then squeezing colored pigment paste, color by color, to create a multi-colored printed design pattern. This factory develops “nobody has done yet” new techniques, such as indigo hand printing.

Fujita creates printed fabric using “New Man’yo Dye.” for 9-jour. It is the first attempt to apply this dyeing material to hand printing. Therefore, there is no forerunner or data. Representative Takehiro Fujita says, “I will challenge myself by making mistakes over and over again. Repeating the same procedure leads to nowhere. There will be no progress in traditional Japanese techniques. So, I keep challenging myself with a strong will to create something that truly brings joy to the customers.”

Kojima is the birthplace of Made in Japan Denim. ”Made in Kojima” is known for its high-quality denim products.

For 9-jour., Nice Corporation corporates with sewing, packing, and shipping. After the sewing process, products are vacuum-packed to maintain the best condition. Representative Ikuma Izutsu says, “I immediately liked 9-jour. I resonate with their attitude towards manufacturing. They use only biodegradable fiber, like rayon sewing thread, not polyester. I thought I wanted to be a partner.”
